Silver & Gold Dragon Parade (金银龙舞) & 5-Colour Lion Dance (五色狮)
The Silver & Gold Dragon Parade is a traditional Chinese performance commonly seen during the Chinese New Year. Featuring two majestic dragons: one shimmering in silver and the other in gold, dancing through the streets to the sound of drums and firecrackers.
In Chinese culture, the colours of the dragon carry deep significance
- Gold Dragon: Symbolizes wealth, prosperity, and imperial authority. It is believed to attract abundance and financial success for the coming year.
- Silver Dragon: Symbolizes purity and wisdom. It is often associated with spiritual wealth and the "shimmering" light that guides people through darkness
The pairing represents a balance of fortunes, ensuring that the community receives both material success and peace.
5-Colour Lion Dance (also called Auspicious Lion or the Liu Bei Lion) is one of the most prestigious and traditional types of lion in Chinese culture. Features a face and body decorated with yellow, red, black, white, and green.
- The 5 Elements: These colours represent the five elements of the universe: Earth, Fire, Water, Metal, and Wood.
- The 5 Directions: In ancient court traditions (the Tang Dynasty), it was known as the "Lion Dance of the Five Directions," symbolizing peace and good fortune for the entire world (North, South, East, West, and Center)
Golden LED Dragon Show, High-Pole Lion Dance & Acrobatics and ‘Eye-Dotting Ceremony’ for good fortune and success
Date: 17 February 2026
Time: 7.30 PM at The Bay Area
Chinese New Year performances are more than just entertainment. They are ancient rituals designed to sweep away misfortune and invite a positive energy called “Qi” for the year ahead.
- Golden LED Dragon Show: The dragon is the ultimate symbol of power and luck. By illuminating it with Golden LEDs, we "light the path" for wealth and success to find us in the modern world.
- High-Pole Lion Dance: A heart-pounding display of bravery. As the lion leaps across poles meters above the ground, it symbolizes overcoming life's obstacles and rising to new heights of success.
- Acrobatics: These feats of strength represent Harmony and Unity. They remind us that through balance and cooperation, we can achieve the impossible.
The Eye-Dotting Ceremony is the most vital moment of any celebration. By dabbing red paint onto the eyes, ears, and mouth, we awaken the spirit of these mythical beasts. This ritual is essential for:
- Vision: Giving the lion the sight to seek out good fortune.
- Protection: Empowering the spirit to ward off negative energy.
- Blessing: Formally inviting prosperity and success to dwell within our community for the entire year.
Dragon Mascot Parade
